about

My second album released on SoundCloud back in June.

The album takes influence from Bob Dylan's: The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and The Times They Are-A Changin'; to become a modern story driven folk album about living during the recent worldwide financial crunch.

The songs are generally very soft hearted and emotionally driven from the point of a young man observing and talking to the people, who were severely affected by the recession and the incidents that followed during the time.

Fun fact: The album's content is a selection of songs that were taken 3 separate acoustic albums I planned to record from 2011 - 2013. The 3 albums original titles were: 'The Recession Blues', 'Our Times Keep On Rolling' and 'Laurence Lam Vol. 1'.

Each album had 10 completed songs each and had their own concept and themes. All the songs were later revised and combined to make the whole concept tighter and more relevant to the aftermath of the recession and my songwriting and musician skills had developed considerably by this point.

'The Recession Blues' was the first album to be completed and ready to be draft recorded. Inspired by Dylan's Freewheelin' the songs were very direct on how the credit crunch affected people. Only a handful of songs were recorded as a test but were abandoned in favour for the 'rolling times' album. 2 songs from this album were carried over to this album.

'Our Times Keep On Rolling' had the main concept that was carried over for this album. The whole album was drafted several times over the course of 4 years before it was shelved completely after I realised that the subject matter isn't relevant anymore. This album was revisited at the insistence of my girlfriend during May 2015 because of the outcome of the UK General Election. 5 songs from this album made it onto the final cut.

'Laurence Lam Vol. 1' was a brief revisit to protest songs during the first half of 2013 but got abandoned after I was disappointed with the recording of some of the songs. The concept and overall theme were a surreal observation on coming out of my teens to the crazy adult world of politics and corporate lifestyles clashing with the world of the internet and memes. 4 songs of this album were bought over because their subject matters were closely tied to this album.

Laurence Lam England, UK

I'm a friendly musician with a passion for blues jamming and for writing songs that tackle different subject matters.

Taking the lyrical songwriting from Bob Dylan, with the album structures of Pink Floyd and the subject matter resembling that of The Velvet Underground; I have my unique style of writing complex songs and very far out albums that separates me from your average artist.
